Dr. Junhyoung Kim is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Health Behavior at the Texas A&M University School of Public Health and Director of the Smart Aging and Gerontechnology (SAGE) Lab. His research focuses on developing and evaluating technology-based interventions to promote healthy aging, enhance dementia care, and improve the quality of life of older adults and their caregivers. His work spans virtual reality, socially assistive robots, artificial intelligence, mobile health technologies, and digital therapeutics, supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), ARPA-H, and other funding agencies.

Dr. Kim will provide an overview of emerging technology applications for older adults living with dementia, highlighting how innovative technologies can support cognitive health, mental well-being, physical function, and independent living. The presentation will place particular emphasis on immersive virtual reality interventions for health promotion, including recent research on nature-based and exercise-focused VR programs designed to enhance physical activity, reduce psychological distress, and improve quality of life among older adults with cognitive impairment.
