Artist Talk: David Helm Labyrinths

The Hite Institute of Art + Design is excited to invite you to an artist talk with artist and designer David Helm. Join us on Saturday Sept. 12, at 3 p.m. for a lecture and discussion with David Helm. This event is free and open to the public. 

Helm's solo exhibition Labyrinths is on view at the Cressman Center for Visual Arts from September 11-October 31, 2026. 

In Labyrinths, a series of photographs document temporary large-scale drawings of the Chartres labyrinth, drawn on beaches between high and low tides using simple handmade tools.  Begun during a difficult period in the artists life, the practice has become an ongoing encounter with care and loss.

David Helm is a fifth-generation Louisvillian, a graduate of the Hite Art Institute at the University of Louisville, and director of Studio Jelly in Portland, Oregon.
