Future Engineering Artificial Intelligence Skills Training/Design (FEAST)

October 19 - 21, 2026

The workshop will convene thought leaders in engineering education, cognitive science, computer science, and the engineering industry to converse about the future of engineering, producing a consensus framework and actionable roadmap for the transformation of engineering education and practice. Attendees will help develop a globally-competitive STEM workforce and build partnerships between academia, industry, and other stakeholders.

Registration opens in June.

We stand at a moment of genuine transformation in engineering. AI is reshaping how we design, build, and solve problems, and our students are embracing it with remarkable speed. This is an invitation to renew engineering education: to identify the competencies that endure, cultivate the new ones this era demands, and prepare engineers who can wield powerful tools with practical wisdom.

Dr. Campbell Bego FEAST Conference Co-Chair

Engineering is one of the largest and most consequential professional workforces in the U.S. A failure to proactively redefine engineering competence in response to AI risks producing graduates unprepared for practice, eroding public safety, and ceding leadership in a globally competitive field.

Workshop Structure

  • Day 1 of the three-day workshop will ground participants in current expertise through presentations and panels, identifying engineering’s most pressing challenges and areas of uncertainty due to AI.
  • Day 2 will shift to generative, collaborative work: structured sessions will focus on synthesizing across perspectives and drafting a framework for engineering competence in the AI era.
  • Day 3 will be explicitly action-oriented, producing a published roadmap document that outlines concrete next steps for engineering education and practice, with assigned responsibilities and timelines for follow-through.
