Healing the Helping Professional: The Unfinished Business of Childhood Trauma

EVENT

Event Details

The Raymond A. Kent School of Social Work and Family Science will host this virtual continuing education workshop exploring how developmental trauma, attachment experiences and emotional survival adaptations influence helping professionals throughout their careers.

Helping professionals often dedicate their lives to caring for others while overlooking the ways their own childhood experiences continue to shape their professional identity, clinical work and wellbeing. Grounded in developmental trauma theory, attachment research and trauma-informed practice, this interactive presentation combines research, case studies, guided reflection, facilitated discussion and Q&A to explore how early experiences can contribute to burnout, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, boundary challenges and resilience. Designed for social workers, marriage and family therapists, counselors, students, supervisors and other helping professionals, participants will leave with practical strategies for cultivating greater authenticity, reflective practice and sustainable professional wellbeing.

Approved for 3 KY SW or MFT and IN BHHS CEUs. Cost is required. UofL discounts are available.
