DESCRIPTION:On Friday, October 16, in the hours leading up to the opening o
f the PickleY’all Festival in downtown Louisville, we will temporarily r
eshape the 500 block of West Jefferson Street in front of Louisville Metro
Hall with a street activation and community volunteerism event we call T
he Moving Forest. This event was conceived of and planned by the Christina
Lee Brown Envirome Institute's Urban Design Studio and made possible by g
enerous support from the Humana Foundation.\n\nFrom 11 am to 3 pm, hundred
s of volunteers from major Louisville corporations will transform the stre
etscape, arranging 70 garden carts filled with trees and smaller plants in
to new configurations. Each 25-gallon tree will move as part of a choreog
raphed sequence designed and led by Leigh Anne Albrechta from the Louisvil
le Ballet.\n\nThe Envirome Institute's Greenprint initiative is working w
ith partners across Louisville to deploy nature-based solutions to make a
measurable difference in improving air quality, reducing heat, encouraging
physical activity and supporting community well-being. The Moving Forest
will use the temporary landscape configurations on West Jefferson Street
to convert a planning exercise into a performance people can experience to
visualize the impact green spaces can have in our health and well-being.\
n\nAfter the event our partners TreesLouisville and Louisville Grows will
plant the trees in Greenprint project sites across downtown.\n\n\nThe Movi
ng Forest is free and open to the public. Please come by and witness to ho
w trees could transform our downtown.
