DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Prof.  Gerard Williger (University of Louisville)\n\
nDate: Friday October 2, 2026, 3-4 p.m.\n\nPlace: Natural Sciences Buildi
ng, Room 112 \n\nTitle: Spectroscopy and Photometry of Young Solar-mass
 Stars in the Chamaeleonis 1 Star-Forming Region\n\nAbstract: \n\nThe mech
anisms producing variability in young solar-mass ("T Tau")\nstars are comp
lex, and are influenced by accretion changes, dust\nin the surrounding dis
k, starspots etc.  The innermost parts of their\ndisks cannot be resolved
by current high-resolution imagery, but can\nbe probed by high resolution
spectroscopy and high time resolution\nphotometry.  The Konkoly Observat
ory star formation group has a project to\ninvestigate a sample of 6 T Tau
stars in the Chamaeleonis 1 (Cha 1)\ncomplex, one of the closest star for
mation regions.  The group\nreceived time on ESO and SMARTS telescopes fo
r spectroscopy and\nphotometry of the sample, contemporaneous with a TESS
campaign in\n2019, and combined the data with ground-based photometry from
\nlong-term photometric monitors such as ASAS-SN.\n\n     The first thr
ee Cha 1 targets were analysed and published by G.\nZsidi and E.  Fiorell
ino, and yielded clues to rotation rates, the\ncircumstellar dust content,
accretion rate variability and wind\ncomponent features.  Here, I give a
status report on the remaining 3\nstars in the project: CT Cha, VZ Cha an
d WW Cha.  I will present 25\nyears of data including light curves, Lomb-
Scargle periodograms and\ncolour-magnitude diagrams, describe emission lin
e profile variability,\nand give a preview of work to be done to determine
  accretion rates.
