DESCRIPTION:The Hite Institute of Art + Design is excited to announce our n
 ext exhibition Labyrinths, a solo exhibition of photographs by David Helm.
  \n\nIn Labyrinths, a series of photographs document temporary large-scal
 e drawings of the Chartres labyrinth, drawn on beaches between high and lo
 w tides using simple handmade tools.  Begun during a difficult period in 
 the artists life, the practice has become an ongoing encounter with care a
 nd loss.\n\nDavid Helm is a fifth-generation Louisvillian, a graduate of t
 he Hite Art Institute at the University of Louisville, and director of Stu
 dio Jelly in Portland, Oregon.\n\nA reception for Labyrinths will be held 
 on Friday Sept. 11, from 5-7 p.m. at the Cressman Center for Visual Arts.
