Author David Orentlicher, MD, JD, will discuss his view that the “imperial presidency” and partisan conflict are largely the result of a deeper problem – the Constitution’s placement of a single president atop the executive branch. In his book, Orentlicher offers a remedy: replace the one-party presidency with a two-person, two-party executive branch.
Orentlicher is professor of constitutional law at Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He was a Democratic member of the Indiana House of Representatives from 2002-2008. He earned degrees in law and medicine from Harvard University.
This event marks the fifth of nine events in the McConnell Center’s “Debating America” lecture series.
