She will recount the journey that took her through China, across the Gobi Desert and Mongolia, eventually landing in South Korea, where she finally found freedom. In 2014, Park moved to the United States to study at Columbia University. Now a graduate of the Ivy League school, she speaks candidly about her experiences there and her thoughts on freedom in the US.
Yeonmi Park has written two best-selling books about her experiences. In Order to Live: A North Korean Gir's Journey to Freedom and While Time Remains: A North Korean Defector's Search for Freedom in America.
A straightforward speaker, Park is a leading voice of oppressed people around the world. She delivers passionate and deeply personal talks about the brutality of the North Korean regime. Her address at the One Young World Summit in Dublin on the horrors of detention camps, political executions, and sex trafficking has been viewed more than 320 million times. The BBC named Park one of their "Top 100 Global Women."
