Visual Theatre Showcase with Professor Wagner Cintra and Theatre Arts
Prof. Wagner Cintra is the associate Dean of the Institute of Arts at the University of the State of São Paulo, an University of Louisville academic partner.
His research and master and doctoral work have become referents in the study of Tadeuszk Kantor in Brasil. His major areas of specialization and academic research include theater praxis, specifically the intersection of theater and visual arts. In such context, he studies the theory and practice of theatrical studio direction, the essentials of the language of Visual Theater. He analyzes this area of animated forms theater manipulated in the stage and places them at the same level as puppets, props, diverse materials, in addition to the actor.
He has collaborated with the Brazilian Studies program for a few years. Students in our study abroad program visit his campus in the city of São Paulo and learn how to make puppets, and more importantly get trained on the idiosyncrasies of visual art and its role as a teaching tool. Invited by Prof. Manuel Medina from the Brazilian Studies Program and Pror. Charles Nasby, from the Theater Department, he visits the University to share its talent and art with students in the Theater Department. Hosted and organized by Prof. Nasby, Prof, Cintra is conducting a workshop delivered over 5 different sessions where students learn the theory and practice of puppets, matter, props and the actor as perceived by visual theatre. It is an unique opportunity for our students.
