Ar·ti·fact , a new body of work, uses the vessel to describe a variety of childhood experiences and their indelible impressions. The work chronicles a period of five summers, from 1975 to 1980, that the artist spent in the rural town of Mankato, Kansas. This series consists of slab-built, stoneware pouring vessels and steel wire baskets. Constructed from one-millimeter slabs in order to reference 19th and early 20th century tin watering cans, the work in this exhibition appears as old as the memories they represent.

MCSP, the first of eleven pieces in the series, reflects on the rituals of the swimming pool. This work established the format for the series, which explores a variety of summertime memories, sensations, and travails.
