The Video Works of Robert Beatty, 2010 - 2017 + Live Performance
Video artist, graphic designer, and musician Robert Beatty will present his video work from the past 10 years followed by a live performance in this multimedia presentation, inaugurating the rebirth of the Film Liberation Unit.
With an oeuvre unstuck in time, Robert Beatty’s craft is a distinctive and ethereal blend of an analogue past and the digitally vaporous present. As a founding member of the Lexington-based noise group Hair Police, Beatty’s sensibility is distinguished by a blending of the musical and visual, translating and transfiguring sound into luminescent visual collage for his music video work. Beatty’s artistic style has also drawn attention recently for his album art designs, having produced cover art for musical artists such as Tame Impala, Ariel Pink, Flaming Lips, Kesha, and others. His work has been featured at the Anthology Film Archive in New York, and has been commissioned by the 21c in Lexington, KY.
Beatty is also a prolific musician and performer, releasing music under his own name as well as under the name Three Legged Race. The video program will be followed by a live musical performance.
This program is presented by the Film Liberation Unit, a recently revived student organization on UofL’s campus dedicated to bringing art house, experimental, obscure, and overlooked cinema to the UofL and Louisville-at-large community.
