In this talk, Dr. Michael Anthony, this year’s University of Louisville Graduate School Alumni Fellow, will share lessons in the art and science of leadership that contributed to his path from UofL graduate student to current President at Prairie State College. With humor, stories, and strategies, Dr. Anthony will inspire attendees to consider how they can lead from where they are – and from where they hope to be.

Graduate School 2022 Alumni Fellow: Michael Anthony

Michael D. Anthony received his Master of Arts in Higher Education in 2005 and his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Organization Development in 2010, both from the University of Louisville. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Marketing concentration from North Carolina State University in 2003.

Dr. Anthony currently serves as the 16th president of Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Prior to this, he served as Vice President of Student Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness from 2019-2021. He was Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Rochester Community and Technical College in Rochester, Minnesota from 2019-2019 and Chief Diversity Officer and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, IL

Dr. Anthony’s experience as student body president and trustee at North Carolina State University led him to seek a career in higher education. Dr. Anthony served numerous roles at the University of Louisville from 2003 through 2017, including Director of the Cultural Center and Adjunct Professor. He served as a Chief Diversity Officer Fellow with the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education and as a Title IX Coordinator. Dr. Anthony has led hundreds of workshops to thousands of students and practitioners on a range of topics, including African American student success, leadership development, diversity and inclusion, assertive communication, team development, program management, and creating and managing change within the environment.

Dr. Anthony is a first-generation college graduate raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. He sits on the board of directors for New Star in Chicago Heights, and the Prairie State College Foundation. Dr. Anthony currently resides in Matteson Illinois and is the proud father to his 12-year-old daughter, Katharine.
