Soreyda Benedit-Begley (Lexington, KY) is an arts and culture activist that blends her background as a garment worker, fashion designer and performance artist with community organizing and advocacy. Her wearable works of art have graced runways across the country as well as internationally. Over the past decade she has been an honored guest and speaker at institutions across the bluegrass and beyond including Kentucky State, The bell hooks center, Centre College, Transylvania University, Western Kentucky University, Eastern Kentucky University, Bluegrass Community and Technical College, Georgetown College, Cal Poly State University; speaking to the urgency of social change and environmental sustainability.

Currently, she is perusing a degree from Berea College in Political Science and African American Studies. She is Berea College’s Student Government Association Junior Senator, Art Committee’s CO-Chair, and the Black Students Union Bridging the Gap Committee Chair. She also serves as Board Member of Casa de la Cultura Hispana de Kentucky, New American Initiative, Bluegrass Indo American Society, and as a Lexington Fayette Urban County Government’s International Affairs Commissioner. She spent much her early career championing for under-served artists through community engagement. In this next phase of work, she plans to write legislation that improves the lives of working artists as well as making the arts more accessible.
