The Hite Institute of Art and Design is excited to share news of our latest exhibition: Mark Peiser: The Work behind The Work. On view March 7-May 8, 2025, with a reception and Q&A with the artist and curator on Friday March 21 from 5-7 p.m. The Q&A will begin at 6 p.m. Free and open to the public! We hope you will join us.
This exhibition, which showcases the depth of Peiser’s technical mastery and artistic vision, offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the evolution of his work from concept to completion. Many of the objects on display, including preparatory sketches, molds, and models of imagined or completed work, have never been exhibited before, shedding new light on the artist’s meticulous approach to glassmaking.
“Mark Peiser’s contributions to the field of glass art are immeasurable,” said Dr. Alysia Fischer, curator of the exhibition. “This collection not only highlights his innovation and craftsmanship but also allows us to witness his creative journey in an unprecedented way.”
Peiser, whose career spans over five decades, has been celebrated for his groundbreaking techniques and experimental approach to glass. His work is represented in major museum collections worldwide, and his influence continues to inspire generations of artists.
About Mark Peiser
Mark Peiser (b. 1938) is a distinguished American glass artist known for his pioneering work in the Studio Glass Movement. A founding member of The Glass Art Society, he has continually pushed the boundaries of glass as an artistic medium, developing innovative techniques and unique aesthetic approaches throughout his career.
