Description.  The School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies (SIGS) would like to invite graduate students either interested in or currently teaching to participate in a series of six discussion-based sessions on how to navigate their own and their students’ diversity identities in academic settings (classrooms, mentoring, etc).  Students who participate in 5/6 sessions will receive a certificate from SIGS acknowledging their commitment to self-exploration and understanding of diversity in academia.

Learning Outcomes. As a result of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Evaluate the implications of whether to correct students about their microaggressions

2. Consider student reactions to being corrected about cultural issues in the classroom.

Presenter(s). Stephanie Winkeljohn Black, MEd, is a doctoral candidate in the Counseling Psychology program in the College of Education and Human Development. Stephanie is an instructor of a human development and learning course at the undergraduate and masters level, and oversees the curriculum design of the undergraduate course.
