Have you ever read a novel, a short story, or a poem in translation and wondered how the translator was able to find the words in English to capture the vision of an author from a different country and another culture? In this presentation, Dr. Rhonda Buchanan, Professor of Spanish and Director of Latin American and Latino Studies will take us on an international journey as she tells us about the intimate act of translation and introduces us to several authors whose works she has translated from Spanish to English, including the Argentine writers Ana María Shua and Perla Suez, and the Mexican author Alberto Ruy Sánchez. This lecture is certain to provide you with a list of books to read on your next vacation or for your next Book Club meeting!
