LGBTQ+ Affirming Healthcare Series Session Three: What’s New in Options for HIV Prevention and Treatment?
This presentation will include a review of the 2021 updated CDC recommendations for Pre-exposure prophylaxis of HIV (PrEP) released fall, 2021, a historical review of HIV medications from 1987-2021 and their impact upon the pathogenesis of the HIV virus, and finally, current LGBTQ+ immunization recommendations for treatment and prevention, including COVID-19 and Monkeypox.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to describe 3 options for PrEP implementation, including safer sex appliances.
- Participants will be able to identify at least 2 new classes or treatment options of HIV medications and their mechanisms of action.
- Participants will be able to identify potential risks of the new injectable HIV prevention and treatment medications, including the use of newly recommended laboratory studies for HIV disease identification with newer agents.
-Participants will recognize signs and symptoms of Monkey Pox
