LGBTQ+ Affirming Healthcare Series, Session Four
Providing LGBTQ+ Affirming Care in Difficult Climates

The LGBTQ+ community face high rates of health disparities due to many factors including bias, discrimination, and lack of provider knowledge in LGBTQ+ specific health care. In this session, participants will learn about the breadth and depth of the healthcare disparities and barriers to care for our LGBTQ+ community, including those barriers specific to Louisville, KY. Participants will learn the positive impact of affirming language and environments in healthcare on psychosocial and medical outcomes. The session will then explore strategies for healthcare providers and team members for implementing an inclusive environment, even in challenging and opposing climates.
More: In-person location and virtual link will be emailed to registrants; participants are welcome to attend sessions, even if they don’t complete the series; complimentary lunch provided, first-come, first-served; session will begin promptly at 12 Noon; continuing Educaiton Credits offered for dentists, nurses and physicians.
Brief Biosketch: Suzanne E. Kingery, M.D. (she, her), is a pediatric endocrinologist with Norton Children’s Endocrinology affiliated with UofL School of Medicine. She has an active interest in medical education directing the pediatric endocrinology fellowship program and serving as the course director for Human Systems in Health and Disease (HSHD) for second year undergraduate medical students in the School of Medicine. Dr. Kingery has a strong professional interest in improving the care and quality of life of gender diverse, nonbinary and transgender youth and currently directs the Pediatric and Adolescent Gender Education (PAGE) program at Norton Children’s Endocrinology.
