Lee Mandelo is a writer, critic, and occasional editor whose fields of interest include speculative and queer fiction, especially when the two coincide. Summer Sons, their debut novel, is a contemporary Southern gothic dealing with queer masculinity, fast cars, and ugly inheritances. Lee will be discussing their most recent work, alongside growing up queer in Appalachia, their own publishing journey, and a discussion centered on restrictions of queer sexuality and representation in media. The event is free and hosted by Honors Student Council. Copies of Mandelo's recent book will be available for purchase. A reception will follow the talk.
