Redefine Graduate Student Success

Student success is a top priority in UofL’s Igniting Potential, Shaping Tomorrow strategic plan. That is why the Office of the Provost will host the Graduate Student Success Summit on Tuesday, April 14, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in Bigelow Hall (Miller Information Technology Center; Belknap Campus).

Come Ready to Work

This is a working session for UofL faculty and staff who are engaged in graduate student instruction, professional development and the overall graduate student experience. Attendees will share their insights in facilitated roundtable discussions and report out to the summit attendees. The event will also include a presentation on graduate student and graduate school enrollment and performance trends as well as a panel discussion, where UofL graduate students will offer their perspectives on graduate school issues in the ever-changing landscape of higher education.

Goals

  • Align the campus around a shared vision of the future of graduate education and a shared responsibility for graduate student success, with clear, actionable objectives.
  • Provide an understanding of the challenges facing higher education and graduate study in particular, with an eye toward reenvisioning the future of student-centered graduate education.
  • Present a current picture of graduate students and graduate education (data) and evaluate enrollment trends to understand where there is capacity to increase UofL’s graduate enrollments.
  • Consider actions to ensure student success for adult students who may be different than those we’ve had in the past.
  • Imagine innovative program curricula that are exciting, fresh and meet workforce needs.

Top-of-Mind Topics

  • Recent trends that have emerged in graduate programs over the past 2-3 years
  • How university resources support graduate student success
  • Additional resources needed to support graduate student success
  • And more

Call to Action

With more than 130 graduate programs and more than 5,800 graduate students, it is safe to say that UofL is a major destination for those who seek career advancement, increased earning potential as well as vocational specialization and expertise. Our graduate students are highly motivated, diligent, intellectually curious and talented individuals. As a prestigious Carnegie Research 1 University, UofL must provide an environment where our graduate students thrive in their studies.
