Faculty Artist: Erin Keesy, soprano & Matthew Umphreys, piano

Soprano, Erin Keesy has been praised for her “plush timbre” and “agile purity”.
Recent appearances include engagements with the Cincinnati POPS orchestra, the
Louisville Orchestra, Hamilton Fairfield Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony
Orchestra and as a young artist with Cincinnati Opera. Recently, she was a featured
performer in SongFest’s Stern Fellowship program in Los Angeles. During the
program, she premiered a set of six songs by composer, Peter Golub and performed
and worked alongside many esteemed colleagues and teachers. She was also a
participant in the Stern Fellowship LA Opera program. Ms. Keesy was seen in the
role of Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Clorinda in Rossini’s Cenerentola
with Cincinnati’s Queen City Opera. She will return to the QCO stage as Agathe in
Weber’s Der Freischütz this spring. She received her Master’s degree and Artist
diploma from Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music and her Bachelor’s in
Voice from the University of Louisville.

Cincinnati-based collaborative pianist and vocal coach Matthew Umphreys
specializes in opera, chamber music, and musical theater. Matthew works as a
coach, pianist and music director with organizations such as a Cincinnati
Opera, concert:nova, RokCincy, Cincinnati Children’s Theatre, and the
Schmidt Vocal Institute. He is a founding member of the contemporary
chamber music ensemble All of the Above, the ensemble-in-residence at
Xavier University in Cincinnati. The group performed at the Cortona Sessions
for New Music in Italy in July 2017, and made their Carnegie Hall debut in
December 2017. Their first album was recorded at Queens College in February
2018 and will be released later this year through Ablaze Records.
Matthew graduated from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of
Music with his Master's degree in Collaborative Piano in 2014. He joined the
music faculty at Xavier University in 2016 and currently serves as Director of
Music at Columbia Baptist and Linwood Baptist churches in Cincinnati.
Matthew is a native of Council Bluffs, Iowa and received his undergraduate
degree in Piano Performance and Business Management from Luther College
in Decorah, Iowa.
