Women and girls in rural Nigeria face disproportionate economic, educational and social burdens along with poor reproductive and other health outcomes. An important issue is menstrual hygiene, including taboos, missed days of work and school, access to feminine hygiene products, and private toilets. This mixed methods study assesses school girls' knowledge and practices. The first phase of this study will inform a community-based intervention to improve menstrual hygiene; interventions will be evaluated to ensure effectiveness and sustainability.
