http://filsonhistorical.org/Accompanying the exhibit “Understanding the Indescribable: Paintings by G. Caliman Coxe,” Coxe biographer and emeritus professor of Pan-African Studies at the University of Louisville Dr. Robert L. Douglas will give a lecture on Coxe’s artistic career. Dr. Douglas first met Coxe in the late 1950s, after which the two artists worked and exhibited together for four decades. In later years, Dr. Douglas spent significant time interviewing Coxe for a forthcoming biography. Dr. Douglas will place the exhibit in the broader context of Coxe’s life and career. The exhibit, in the Bingham Gallery, will remain open from 5 to 6pm, after which the lecture will take place in the Street Lecture Hall.
Robert L. Douglas is a Professor Emeritus in the Pan-African Studies Department at the University of Louisville. He received his degree in American Studies from the University of Iowa.
