#WorkshopThe Center for Family & Community Well-Being welcomes Dr. Meghan A. Novisky from Cleveland State University for an in depth presentation on the emerging areas of health-related inequalities among incarcerated persons.
Dr. Meghan A. Novisky is an Assistant Professor of Criminology at Cleveland State University and has worked as a consultant for the University of Cincinnati's Corrections Institute since 2009. She holds a Bachelor & Master degree in Justice Studies, and a PhD in Sociology, all from Kent State University. Dr. Novisky's research focuses on the links between incarceration and health conditions of confinement, and vulnerable populations in the criminal justice system, including older incarcerated adults and victims of crime. Her work has been published in peer reviewed journals such as Crimonology, Justice Quarterly, the Journal of Interpersonal Violence, and Violence against women.
This presentation will first offer a brief overview of the range of health-related disparities tied to incarceration. The presentation will discuss specific findings on emerging areas of health-related inequalities in corrections by drawing on her own research agenda. Focus areas during this portion of the presentation will include results on the varied nature of access to health care services among incarcerated persons as well as exposure to violence during incarceration.
