The JG Brown Cancer Center Experimental Therapeutics Program evolved from the JG Brown Cancer Center Molecular Targets Program COBRE. One of the strengths of the Program is Structure-based Drug Design which is supported by a Molecular Modeling/Computational Drug Discovery Core Facility. This has facilitated drug discovery on numerous systems with candidates reaching clinical trials. The Core Facility has also been supported by a unique Public-Private Partnership across the Commonwealth of Kentucky to increase available resources. The Experimental Therapeutics structure-based drug design process and pipeline will be highlighted with several examples from DNA to Membrane Proteins.
BIO: John O. Trent Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Medicine and is the Deputy Director of Basic and Translational Research for the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, University of Louisville. He also holds the Wendell Cherry Endowed Chair for Cancer Translational Research, and is the Leader of the JG Brown Cancer Center Experimental Therapeutics Program. His main interests are the structure of DNA and proteins, drug discovery and development, and translational cancer research.
