Art from the collection of Dario and Madeline Covi will be available for purchase through an online auction. Proceeds will benefit from the Hite Institute of Art + Designs Permanent Art Collection. 

Dr. Dario Covi (1920 – 2021), a highly respected scholar of Italian Renaissance art history and Professor Emeritus of Fine Arts, was an important figure in the College of Arts and Sciences for more than half a century. He served as chair of fine arts for seven years and then as curator of the collection beginning in 1977 and continuing long after his retirement in 1991. A native of Livingston, Illinois, Dr. Covi first joined the A&S faculty in 1956 after studying at universities in the United States and Europe. He earned his doctorate in Art History from New York University.

Madeline Cundiff Covi was the Art librarian at the Hite Art Institute from 1952-1957. She holds a BA(French) and MA(History) from the University of Louisville and an MA(English) from Duke University. Madeline taught at Nazareth College and Louisville Collegiate School and is the co-author of “Tapestry of an Art Association” a history of the Art Center Association’s 75 years in Louisville as well as “Louisville Modern: An Era in Art”. Madeline and Dario married in 1961.

The collection is available to preview now and the auction will begin at 10 AM on April 12, 2023
