About the Workshop:
At some point, you might be called to serve on a faculty search committee for the university. This process varies depending on the position, discipline, and/or department; nevertheless, how might a keen awareness of implicit bias and how it impacts hiring practices build more inclusive and equitable workspaces? To frame the same question with more urgency: What do we risk if we do not address implicit bias in the spaces where we learn, teach, and build community? These questions are the focus of this interactive workshop, which utilizes theater to engage participants in identifying and addressing implicit bias in higher education practices, through professionally acted search committee and tenure & promotion committee scenes. The workshop concludes with practical tools and resources, aligned with the UofL STRIDE Handbook, for participants to implement into their respective departments.
NOTE: Participants will have many opportunities to interact with professional actors and experts in this engaging workshop.
About ATHENA:
ATHENA is an institutional initiative, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) ADVANCE Program. The ATHENA project is adapting evidence-based interventions to improve the professional standing and career opportunities for women STEM faculty at the University of Louisville.
