Each year, nationally recognized leaders in medical, procedural, and aesthetic medicine convene in Santa Barbara to discuss and review the current state of knowledge in their respective dermatologic specialties. This program in medical dermatology features key clinical topics, including atopic dermatitis, acne vulgaris, cutaneous cancers, rosacea, psoriasis, and other important issues. Aesthetic medicine continues to be a growing specialty in the milieu of the aging American population and medical consumers’ ever-increasing desire to achieve the best possible quality of life at any age.

Dr. Heffernan is an internationally recognized complex medical dermatologist and clinical trialist. After serving as the  founding chair of Dermatology at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine he served as a Distinguished  Medical Fellow for Eli Lilly & Co. He is now the co-owner of San Luis Dermatology & Laser Clinic and he is the US  Dermatology Lead for Probity Medical Research. Dr. Heffernan has published over 80 peer reviewed articles and  textbook chapters. He has been the principle investigator for nearly 150 research studies and he has provided over 500  invited lectures around the globe.

Roberta is Founder and Owner of the Santa Barbara Skin Institute where she is in full time practice. Raised in California, she returned in 2008 after a decade as Director of Dermatologic Surgery/ Mohs Fellowship Training at Washington University School of Medicine. She currently serves as an Associate Clinical Professor at UC Irvine Department of Dermatology. Her private practice focuses on Mohs/Skin Cancer & Reconstructive Surgery, as well as Aesthetic Laser & Minimally-Invasive techniques. She is active in her specialty's key organizations and has served on the Board of Directors of the American College of Mohs Surgery, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the International Transplant Skin Cancer Collaborative. She is Co-Founder and previous Chair of the WDS’ Women’s Dermatologic Surgery Committee. She has authored over 50 manuscripts, edited the first edition of the textbook 'Surgery of the Skin', and has given countless talks nationally and internationally mostly related to Mohs reconstruction and Facial Rejuvenation. Dr. Sengelmann is best known for her elegant surgical technique and attention to detail and her down to earth and playful disposition. She has 4 children and is married to Dr. Tamir Keshen, a Pediatric Surgeon.

Dr. Jackson is a Clinical Professor of Medicine (Dermatology) at the University of Louisville. Dr. Jackson is active in the dermatology residency program and spends time teaching dermatology residents and medical students. He is also involved in clinical investigational research, as well as in clinical practice with Forefront Dermatology. Dr. Jackson has authored many chapters and articles in peer reviewed publications and has lectured nationally and internationally on topics involving acne, lupus, neutrophilic disorders, psoriasis, eczema, systemic therapies for dermatologic diseases, drug reactions, and advanced dermatologic disorders. He sees patients primarily at the Louisville office, but also serves as an attending physician at the dermatology clinic at the University of Louisville.

Learning Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, the participants will be able to:
1. Discuss new approaches to therapy including pathway targeted therapy in the treatment of melanoma.
2. Assess the role of diagnostic tools and technology in diagnosis and detection of skin cancers.
3. Compare and contrast the efficacy and safety of agents, devices, and techniques currently available in aesthetic and procedural dermatology.
4. Integrate into daily practice evidence-based recommendations on new and emerging therapies for common dermatologic diseases.
5. Analyze treatment approaches for the pediatric patient with common as well as complex skin diseases.
6. Implement updated strategies for managing acne, rosacea, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis and psoriasis.
7. Recognize the factors that are important in selecting appropriate filler agents for treating different areas of the face and targeted planar depths.
8. Determine the appropriate nonsurgical techniques for facial rejuvenation based on an enhanced understanding of facial anatomy.
9. Explain the roles of currently available biologic agents in the treatment of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and appropriately incorporate newer biologics into therapeutic practice as these become available.
10. Incorporate the recent research advances in understanding and treating pediatric dermatology issues such as atopic dermatitis and pediatric acne.
