Join us for UofL's biggest yearly event in astronomy! The 2023 Bullitt Lecture will be on October 12th at 7PM in Rauch Planetarium, featuring guest Professor Jillian Scudder from Oberlin College. Dr. Scudder will give a talk titled, "From lasers and styrofoam to diamond rain, and other improbable stories." This event will feature exclusive merch sold by the Society of Physics Students and the presentation of the Bullitt Scholar in Astronomy and Best Paper in Astronomy awards in addition to the lecture itself. 

 

Dr. Jillian M. Scudder is an Associate Professor of Physics & Astronomy at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. With a research focus on understanding star forming galaxies in the nearby universe, she tries to understand more about the composition of the gas in these galaxies. She also is a popular science author, with three published books, Astroquizzical (Icon Books), Astroquizzical: The Illustrated Edition (MIT Press), and The Milky Way Smells of Rum & Raspberries (Icon Books). She has also published a number of shorter articles, published in Forbes, The Independent, Nautilus, and more.
