Enrique Ayala Mora is the President and Dean of the Faculty of History of the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar in Quito, Ecuador. He has been the editor of the journal Nueva Historia del Ecuador, member of the editorial committee of UNESCO's History of Latin America, editorial coordinator of the Historia de América Andina and consultant for the University of the United Nations in Tokyo.

He is furthermore a member of the Association of Historians of Latin America; the Association of Historians of Ecuador; the Oxford Society; the Society of Latin American Studies in Great Britain and the National Editorial Corporation. Before his position as President of the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, he has been a professor at FLACSO; the catholic universities of Ecuador; Oxford; del Valle (Cali); San Marcos (Lima); Pablo de Olavide (Sevilla) and Federico II-Orientale.
