U.S. Army Strategic Broadening Seminar

The University of Louisville’s McConnell Center will host its annual Strategic Broadening Seminar in Louisville May 31 to June 29.

The strategic broadening seminar (SBS) is an intensive residential immersion program for mid-level U.S. soldiers focused on building leadership capacity, exploring the national security environment with an emphasis on affairs in the Pacific and Asian region and understanding the American constitutional order.

Participants will read and consider classical thoughts on leadership, politics, national security and citizenship from authorities like Plato, Thucydides, Plutarch, Cicero and Alexis de Tocqueville. Students will wade through the cultures and politics of the peoples of Asia with world-renowned experts, including multiple faculty members from UofL. Students will also consider the theoretical underpinnings and history of America’s experience under the U.S. Constitution, including the national security ramifications of the contemporary policy environment.
